Funding awarded to West Midlands Ringing Group's 'Thermal Birding Project'

Today saw more projects awarded funding as part of the HS2 Community and Business Funds.

West Midlands Ringing Group’s Thermal Birding Project uses thermal imaging to monitor Marsh Lane Nature Reserve and the surrounding area for bird species including lapwing, woodcock and skylark. Members of this voluntary organisation have monitored the area since 2016 and the use of thermal imaging will help them to determine whether these species remain in this area in good numbers. The £10,000 granted to the project will also enable the birds to be tagged so that migration routes, breeding success and longevity can be observed and recorded.

The project will provide opportunities for members of the community to be involved through public bird ringing demonstrations and work parties to improve the site habitat.

You can find out more about the project at http://westmidlandsringinggroup.co.uk/

The community and business funds are administered and managed by independent community charity, Groundwork UK. For more information on Groundwork and the funds themselves click here .
