HS2 Notification: Changes to traffic movements at Northway Island - Updated 9th April 2021

HS2 Notification: From 5am on Monday 12 April 2021 for two months, traffic travelling around Northway Island will be rerouted

We are remodelling and improving sections of the existing road network in the Interchange area and creating new routes on HS2 land. These road improvements will ensure that when the future HS2 Interchange Station is operational, the local road network is fit for purpose. Upon completion, a new T-junction will replace Northway Island, and a ‘longabout’ will also replace a smaller roundabout outside the Holiday Inn Express NEC, on the way to the National Exhibition Centre (NEC).

To date, we have connected parts of the existing road network to some of the new routes we created, and installed new pedestrian footpaths, kerb lines and central reservations in the area. We are now progressing the creation of the new T-junction, and traffic travelling around Northway Island will be rerouted.

From 5am on Monday 12 April for two months, short sections of Northway Island will be closed. As a result, road users will no longer be able to travel around the whole of the Island. Depending on your direction of travel, you may be redirected from Northway Island and back to access routes either side of the M42.

Direction of travel along the B4438, A452 and Northway will be unaffected, and you will still be able to access all routes in the area.

During this two month period, we will maintain free flowing traffic, as well as access to all buildings and businesses in the area.

A signed diversion route will be in place for drivers.
